networkmanager+ipw3945+new kernel = slow to find wireless network?

Hi Guys:
I met a strange problem. I am using Debian testing on my thinkpad X60.
Recently, i found when i use the kernel > 2.6.18-4, it is very slow to for networkmanager to connect to any wireless network, even failed sometime (very strong AP signal). However, if i use 2.6.18-4, it can find the network right away.

Has anybody faced the same problem?
or
How to solve it?

I used all debian's official debs.

Thanks

Deng

What exactly is the difference between the kernel > 2.6.18-4, and the 2.6.18-4 kernel?
Have you tried any newer kernels? I use 2.6.21 in all my distributions, 3 Debian testing, Fedora 7 and Mandriva 2007.1. Add a second set of Debian repository lines in your apt sources.list and change out "testing" for "unstable", then do an "apt-get update", then install the 2.6.21 kernel and boot with it, you'll still have your 2.6.18 and can boot to it also if your un-easy with 2.6.21 which is flawless so far for me, and it does not hurt to try it as it can also be cleanly removed. Just make sure to comment out those unstable lines and do another "apt-get update" after installing the kernel before doing any upgrades. If you also need headers for that kernel, you'll need to add the line posted below in your apt sources.list.
Code:
deb http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/ trunk main

Thank you.
But now testing has 2.6.21 already.
I am just running two kernels.
When i use 2.6.21 (of course with its corresponding ipw3945 module), it is slow to connect to wireless network.
When i swtich to 2.6.18-4, it is very quick to connect to the wireless network.

The connection of the wireless network is handled by NetworkManager.
And under both versions of kernels, NetworkManager has no problem to find any wireless networks.
