Network device not found after lenny to squeeze upgrade

Hi,
I was upgrading my Lenny to Squeeze following this guide:
http://www.debian.org/releases/stabl...rading.en.html
I did the minimal system upgrade, kernel and udev update (End of Sec 4.4.5)
Then I rebooted.

When my system came up, there was no network. Clicking on the network manager icon on the panel gives a message "No network devices have been found." I tried connecting a ethernet cable instead of wireless. But no change.

Here is the output of lspci and ifconfig

Code:

somesh@creativision:~$ lspci

The network inteface file (/etc/netwrok/interface) is:
Code:

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Any idea what has gone wrong and how to resolve it?

My laptop is Thinkpad R61. I have recorded the upgrade process as recommended by the guide. If you feel that can be useful, I can post that here.

TIA,

You should be able to edit the /etc/network/interface file and add the following (in a new block below the loopback)
Code:

#This is the wired ethernet port
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Then restart the network interface as root, /etc/init.d/network restart. Hopefully that will get you a wired connection. Then maybe when the upgrade is complete, this will all resolve itself.

Thanks pljvaldez! That worked. And after the complete upgrade, everything is back to normal!

Can you post your output of lspci, /sbin/ifconfig commands and contents of etc/network/interface file?

Thanks,
