net install just with mounting ISO possible?
Hi,
i'm interested in using the network installation method to upgrade my RH9 system to Debian. I can download the bare essentials CD iso and start the installation just mounting the ISO image or do i need to boot it (and hence the physical CD recording becomes necessary)? |
I don't think this is possible, but if you want to install debian from an existing system you should check the debootstrap util. A number of guides can be found on the net, this one for example
P.S. if you have physicall access to that system you can also boot off floppies to perform a netinstall http://www.debian.org/distrib/floppyinst |
There are also 'hdmedia' images, which I assume doesn't need to written to CDs/DVDs :)
But the floppyinstall is the neatest way ever of installing an OS, three-four small disks will get you surfing the internet (text-mode of course) and you can install the full OS after that. "Three small disks to bind them all..." :D |
