Need suggestions for back up software on sarge

We have a company server running CVS and the original person that set this machine up no longer works for the company so I've been maintaining it whenever something needs to be done. I need to do work on the partition containing CVS and was told its backed up to our other server (windows through samba). I need some suggestions on what to look for on whats backing this up. I'd assume it could be as simple as cron scheduling just copying it up every so often.

FWIW, you probably should think about upgrading from sarge. I believe security support from Debian is ending pretty quickly. Current stable version is Etch, to be replaced very soon by Lenny.

Security updates for sarge ended in march 2008. That said, I still use sarge on a ssh-proxy server that I only seldomly wake up by wol. Haven't seen the need for an upgrade yet.
