Need higher refresh rate

I just changed my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to have "1024x768" as the only available mode. All is well and good except I now have 60Hz as my only option as a refresh rate.
Any ideas how I can up this to 75 or 80Hz?
Thanks.

If a Dell m991 is a laptop then you are fixed at 60hz. Laptop monitors are fixed at 60mhz.

In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 edit the VertRefresh parameter.

mine is :
Code:
 VertRefresh 60 - 75
You can also run /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config to change this value

The second method is probably preferable.

hi, I am a Newbie. As a Newbie I would try the graphical "xf86cfg" and set to 50-79 Khz. This should be enough to give about 85Hz, if the monitor can handle it.

I ran xf86cfg like said above and set it up properly. Now my system is completely how I want it (for now).

I've tried xf86config on my own box and changed it to 30-75 to get it to display at 75Hz instead of the 85 it is at now. result was nil, nothing changed and now xf86cfg won't run anymore and just exits with an error. back to 85Hz it is for me
