Need help installing Debian inside Windows on my laptop using Virtual Box

Hi, I have to do an assigment for my Unix/Linux class where I have to install Debian inside of Windows using Virtual Box. My assignment is split into two separate parts. The first part has five steps.

1) Obstain the Debian network installation image called debian-506-i386-netinst.iso <-- I'm having a problem here, how do I do this? I searched everywhere, and can't find the answer to this. I need to do this step to be able to move onto the next step which is using the debian image to create a new virtual machine in VirtualBox. I'm really lost here, can anyone help me?

I'll also need to do all these other steps inside VirtualBox as I set up the virtual machine.. I'm just really lost on the first step.

Thank you for your help!!

Maybe try Google? I searched for "Debian 5.0.6 netinst", the second hit was it. http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/debian-installer/ Second way you should have found: Go to the Debian website and click on "Network Install" in the "Getting Debian" menu.
If you don't do your homework you will need even more help for the next steps.

Well, I don't use my laptop for the class. We're in a computer lab that already has this installed so now our teacher wants us to install it on our laptop just for future reference.
So I downloaded the image, and it saved to my documents. Now when I create a virtual machine on VirtualBox.. how do I use the iso image?
Sorry that I have a lot of questions, I just need to make sure I'm doing this right..

It would be a good idea to read the manual of Virtualbox.
To mount the ISO-image in your virtual machine click on Settings->Storage, then click on the CD icon which is labeled empty, then click on the little folder icon with the arrow.
In the next window click on add, browse to your ISO, select it and click open, then select it in the disc-manager window and click select.
Now you can start your machine and begin with the install.

For the future: This forum is to help you, if you have questions, but you are intended to try it yourself first and do your research. Doing your research includes at least to google it and read the manual of the software you are using. In your case I would recommend the manual for Virtualbox and the Debian wiki.

+1 to that. The VirtualBox User Manual is a shining example of how well documentation can be done.

I've been researching since yesterday, and decided to start the installation today. But thank you, unfornately it's saying it failed. Is it because of where I saved it?

It shouldn't matter where you save the ISO. Please post the exact error message, so that we can help you.

It says:
"Failed to save the settings of the virtual machine Debian to
C:\Users\Danielle\.VirtualBox\Machines\Debian\Debian.xml

Runtime error opening 'C:\Users\Danielle\.VirtualBox\Machines\Debian\Debian.xml-tmp' for reading: -103 (Path not found.).

D:\tinderbox\win-3.2\src\VBox\Main\MachineImpl.cpp[7653]
(Machine::saveSettings)."

I did everything right, or so I thought. But this keeps popping up.
