Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have been having a problem when I log out of my knoppix hdd install. When I choose to log out of kde, the screen goes blank, i.e. the monitor goes to standby and the computer becomes unresponsive (cant restart x server, cant get to console, cant blindly type shutdown or restart commands and have anything happen). I have to hard reboot and run fsck to revive the system, then reboot again before I can boot back to X. I have read that others (the case I read about was running Slack) have had this problem and that is xfree86 hardware related issue (I am running an amd tbird 800 with an ati radeon 9600) but I have not found a resolution. I would be wiling to believe that hardware is the culprit- I have a laptop running the same setup and have not had any problems logging in/out with it (laptop is a pIII 800, ati rage mobility 8mb video). I looked on the xfree86 site, but was unable to find anything helpful (though this may be my fault). If anyone has confonted/solved this issue, please let me know how you resolved it. Thanks in advance!
