Multiple Sound Streams in Debian Etch

I have searched the internet high and low and I once found a page the corrected this issue but now I can't find it.

When I have two sound sources playing, I can only play one at a time. I can't play both sound streams at once. For example. If I have xmms open, and then I am browsing internet and a video comes up, I can't watch the video unless I stop xmms thus freeing the device stream.

If anyone knows of the site I might be talking about let me know. Or if anyone knows how to make Debian Etch AMD64 play sound from multiple sources. please let me know.

Dmix - ALSA wiki

Me, I set up my ~/.asoundrc like it said and it works.

EDIT: Also, go configure the Sound Server (artsd) in the KDE Control Panel (kcontrol) to use plug:dmix as the device.

Also, in XChat, you can use "aplay -D plug:dmix" for the command to pipe sound through, and for most any other program that allows a custom command.
