MontaVista Linux CGE 3.1 Technical Support Req to add Permanant Route

Dear Team,
I am looking for technical assistance for MontaVista CGE 3.1. I need to add persistent static route, for this I have followed the following two procedures but unable to get the result.

1. Make a text file defining the route, saving it in init.d. Debian specific command update-rc.d filename defaults is not running in terminal. Kindly suggest an alternative command to add the text file as script to launch @ bootup
2. Adding a persistent static route via the ‘up’ command which again not supported. Route is temp added via route add command but is not retained once rebooted.

Kindly refer to any technical document outlining the highlighted points.

I'm presuming you mean a network connection. For that, try /etc/network/interfaces to define a network device/port, including its IP address, gateway and subnet mask. If you need to connect to a specific server, try scripting in Bash; plenty of 'how-to's to find in Google. Your request is rather vague, we have no real idea of what you're trying to achieve here...

Ah, you're giving multiple addresses to the same NIC. IIRC you'd need the alias command for that, but you'd better look that up yourself (never done it: no need to ). I think for a persistent route adding it to /etc/network/interfaces is still required.

How to edit a file in LINUX

I adopted the proceedure as follows::

To enter text, you must first switch the editor to input mode by typing i (insert) or pressing the Insert key. At the bottom of the
screen, you see the message --INSERT--.Press Esc once to take you back to the command mode. From
command mode you can switch to command-line mode by entering “:”. The cursor jumps to the last line after “:” and waits for a
command entry.

\\After this step when I write my command and press enter as mentioned below

:route add –net 10.231.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 // and enter after this

\\It says that as mentioned below

Not an editor command : route add –net 10.231.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0
Press RETURN or enter command to continue

Please help

First, you need to be root to edit system files.

What editor are you using? Given your remarks I think you'd be best of with nano for the commandline. You don't need to memorize various command-keystrokes, as these are available on the bottom of the screen
