Modem USB D-link 200 under Debian, unable to connect.

Iīve got in trouble with D-link 200 usb modem under Debian.

I cannot make it connect. Keeps telling me it canīt find
the modem.

Here is my /etc/erciadsl/eciadsl.conf:

Code:
VID1=0547
PID1=2131
VID2=0915
PID2=8000
MODE=VCM_RFC2364
VCI=32
VPI=8
FIRMWARE=/etc/eciadsl/firmware00.bin
SYNCH=/etc/eciadsl/synch01.bin
PPPD_USER=my_username@my_provider
PPPD_PASSWD=(hidden)
USE_DHCP=no
USE_STATICIP=no
STATICIP=
GATEWAY=
MODEM=D-Link DSL200
PROVIDER=Other
DNS1=194.179.1.100
DNS2=194.179.1.101
Note: username and password are really stated on the file.

And here is the startmodem command output:

Code:
setting up USB support (1/5)..

loading firmware (2/5)..

modem not found
Problem here is that firmware00.bin doesnīt
detect the D-LINK, and hence canīt read its
firmware. Only the power led lits, the adsl led
doesnīt. In Window$ machines both lit.

What could I do? In the same machine booting
under Window$ 98 with harddisk d: everything
works smoothly, and of course it connects!

Any idea, please? Has anybody succeeded in
making a D-link 200 USB Módem work under
Debian?

thanks,
:-)

# startmodem

Code:
setting up USB support (1/5)

loading preliminary USB device filesystem
couldnīt mount usbdvfs
HDLC line discipline: version $Revision: 3.3 $, maxframe=4096
N_HDLC line discipline registered.

n_hdlc loaded succesfully

loading firmware (2/5)..

modem not found
Is it usbfs mounted then? mount -v output is:
Code:
/dev/hda1 on / type ext2 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/fd0 on /floppy type msdos (rw)
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)

Before you start connecting open a terminal and type
#tail -f /var/log/syslog

In another terminal start the connection. When you get that 'modem not found' error grab the text written in the first terminal and post it here.
If you don't understand something just ask.

syslog output:

Code:
Oct 9 20:40:01 debian modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module tty-ldisc-13
Oct  9 20:40:05 debian kernel: HDLC line discipline: version $Revision: 3.3 $, maxframe=4096
Oct 9 20:40:05 debian kernel: N_HDLC line discipline registered.
This is all it outputs regarding the startmodem command.
The other things have got nothing to do w/ this.
I donīt know what HDLC line discipline is.
Thank you very much!!

It is probable that your VID/PID numbers are wrong. Try with the scrip

probe_device.sh

More information in

http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/modems.php
http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/doc/

ŋDo you have the conection with ya.com? I had the same problem and now I have synch problems

I have make it!

Really, my modem is "D-Link DSL200 rev B" (view picture in http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/modems.php ). Startmodem don't recognize it, only recognize "D-Link DSL200". I have followed the next steps:

1 Uninstal all your eciadsl packages. Also remove the content of the folder "etc/eciadsl/".

2 Download the package "eciadsl-usermode ....." from http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download/nortek-2021/

3 Extract the files in the folder "etc/eciadsl"

4 Open a terminal in this folder and type
./configure --with-chipset=GS7470
make
make install
make cfg

5 In the window that appears now, select the option :

(your user and pasword)

(Your provider DNS)

Modem: other

Vid1/Pid1: 0915 / 8102
Vid2/Pid2: 0915 / 8102

change synch .bin file: /usermode/GS7470_SynchFiles/synch53.bin

select a ppp mode : LLC_RFC2364

Create config!

6 Type "startmodem"
