Missing grub.conf

i am reading Linux Desktop Hacks, and i am trying to install a grub bootsplash.
I moved the image file foo.xpm.gz in /boot/grub as directed, now i am to add or change the following line:
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/foo.xpm.gz to the grub.conf file.

I dont have a grub.conf file located in /boot/grub

I am running debian etch with the 2.6.15. kernel.

It's probably called /etc/grub/menu.lst

Interestingly, the grub manual refers to menu.lst 7 times, whereas there is no reference to grub.conf.

Grub Manual: http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html

When was the book written ???.
Grub (unmodified) has always only used menu.lst. Until quite recently it was common for the popular distros to patch the source to use grub.conf - and symlink to menu.lst just in case.

Common usage became "grub.conf".
