messed up grub with hd install what to do?

Hello all! I installed a new 250 gb hardrive and wiped xandros and through on debian, well now I got no windows. I do all my gaming in windows and all my dvd backups in windows. Well now I can't get in there to do anything. Not to big of a deal cause I have a test coming up and I need study time a so no games is a benefit, and my dvds are not going any where.

However, I would like to be prepared after this test to do some gaming How can I fix this? kwik disk shows the following disk.
hda 60gb linux
hdd- my dvd burner
sda-120gb external storage via usb.
my bios shows all drives being detected.
also this is my menu.lst I have omitted all except the problem area.

# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/hdc1
title Windows NT/2000/XP
root (hd3,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1

Hmm.. that seems wrong to me. Windows on hdc1 would mean you should have root (hd2, 0). Is your windows drive the master on your secondary IDE channel? (At the moment, grub seems to be trying to boot windows from your DVD burner!)

The 40gb windows hd is on the second ide in the slave position (middle of cable). the hd3,0 was me messing around with it trying to fix it. I changed it to hd2,0 and still no joy wil right down exact error and post it.

if the 40GB drive is SET to slave, then hd3,0 is correct, but you said hdd was your burner. Plugging a drive into a particular connector on the cable doesn't make it master or slave unless you are still using cable-select (blech!). You might like to make sure your jumpers are set correctly. Also, what does fdisk -l /dev/hdc say?

no fdisk did a apt-get install fdisk and says it was replaced by util-linux which i have no idea how to use. Yes i was using cable select. I am gonan takle care of this tomorrow. I will set master and slave via jumpers and I need to reinstall windows (go figure eh) cause its slowed down so much. then I will redo this debian its virgin any way so i haven't got nothing on it. Thanx for the hlp though. I learned some more

The message about fdisk being replaced by util-linux just means that there was once a package called "fdisk" by itself, but now they use a package called util-linux that contains fdisk and some other tools, so if you use apt to install util-linux, you will have fdisk
