menuconfig warnings

Hello,

I just used menuconfig to configure a new 2.6.25 vanilla kernel. After I was done, I saved the new config file and noticed these warnings on Gnome terminal: (not sure what this means. Thanks.)

These are old config options that were removed, so it doesn't matter. Probably if you saved the config and rerun make menuconfig, you should'nt get them anymore.

Why are you compiling as root? Bad habbit.. If the makefile goes wrong or you have setup a link that points out of the kernel source, you will loose data, as root has super power.
You only need root account to INSTALL the compiled software, as /boot or /bin etc.. are only writable by root.
If it's because /usr/src is also only writtable by root, then change permissions of /usr/src and compile as user.
Or just compile somewhere else, like in $HOME/linux

nx5000,

Thanks for the reply. I just read in the nutshell book about building kernels in user directory with user account. Makes sense.

Cheers,
