#memtester 2000 ==> ... trying mlock
At this point lenny freezes, i have to turn power off and reboot with fsck. FF also freezes lenny with the adobe-pdf-reader plugin. Memory problem.

On other PC here, memtester freezes lenny temporarily at mlock, but then just quits and lenny is ok.

could it be that your memory is faulty?

ericdanc 02-01-2010 03:14 AM

how to test memory? Lenny seems to allocate memory ok.

Hardware related faults may not really stop you from allocating memory. usually you see Segmentation FAult or similar problems when you try to access it.

there's memtest program that you must boot it. it tests memory.

ericdanc 02-02-2010 05:01 AM

#aptitude install memtest86
#aptitude install memtest86+

/boot/grub/menu.lst --> memtest=true

#update-grub

i booted and selected memtest which said mem ok.

The freezing of lenny by memtester was probably because i ran memtester not from grub.

Thanks, Eric
