Madwifi Problems

I have a Netgear WG511T wireless PCMCIA card. This uses the atheros chipset, so i download the madwifi drivers by addding the experimental sources to the sources list. I used a module to prepare them and everything seemed ok. I did modprobe ath_pci and the card loaded. When I went into the Gnome networking I took out my ethernet cord and configured the wireless card. It saw my home acess point(along with a neighbors) so i chose mine. I have no WEP currently so I just left that blank. I selected DHCP and then hit ok and activated, except nothing happens. The activation fails and i think it's a problem with the DHCP. Any suggestions?

BTW, I'm using debian etch.
