Lilo install, but want Grub

Hi, I am running Debian Sid, (unstable) with Gnome 2.4 installed. I have only ever been able to install the Lilo Boot manager for some strange reason. However i have nearly got my box to how i want it.

Except for the fact that i want Grub installed, in a safe manner which which would not cause a kernel panic *cough cough* like what happened the last time i tried to install it.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

P.S. I have the man pages and searched the internet, which is why im now askin here b4 i get asked to RTFM

make the /boot/grub/grub.conf as required.
then run 'grub-install /dev/hda',assuming that hda is where you want to install grub.(your primary ide)
