libc6_2.3.6.ds1-7_i386 is in conflict with initrd-tools

Hi,
I downloaded libc6 package and tried to install it with dpkg. I was
informed that initrd-tools had been already installed therefore libc
wouldn't be installed due to packages' conflikt. I tried to uninstall
initrd-tools but I coludn't. To uninstall the package I would have to
uninstall almost entire system.

How can I solve this problem?

You do not say what you are trying to install it on (eg. Sarge, Etch) but the libc6 package is not really one that you can just download and use dpkg -i with. It is pretty much THE main package that everything else depends upon as such when it gets upgraded there are numerous other packages that have to have been built using it installed at the same time. One solution is to dist-upgrade to unstable as that is where you got the package from so that is what you need to be running to use it.

I use Sarge.

You should not be installing that package then if you need newer version of your installed packages you might want to see if they are available on www.backports.org.

Thank for your response. I upgraded my Debian to testing and now everything is working as I excepted.
