Lenny - sources,multimedia, wireless

I'm using lenny - cannot use etch because of bug - long story.
I'm looking for advice please on
- which additional sources to use in lenny for things like multimedia, flash, java etc. I dont want to create problems by mixing incompatible sources.

- is there a recommended sticky for installing multimedia, flash java etc?

- is there a recommended sticky to set up wireless? mine is not detected.

well if you don't care about the debian policy you could always add contrib and non-free behind 'main' in sources.list that way you get access to all the packages maintained by a debian member. for me installation of media stuff is done as I go, as soon as I notice i'm missing something I'll install it. (adding non-free will also allow you to install macromedia flash plugin and Sun JRE and things like that)

about your wireless card, check with the command lspci what kind of card it is, who's the manufacterer, what type is it?

This is the relevant output of my lspci command (assuming that you have a pci wireless card).
Code:
02:0a.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)
This shows all the relevant information, after that you can search this forum or google as to how you can install it.

thanks for the links. Particularly the multimedia link.

I had added contrib and non-free.
re wireless: I have an onboard realtek rtl8187.
Over the next week or so I will look at installing this, tho it will be complicated by the fact that I'm using lenny. I've already had a bit of a runaround before I could find and install kernel-headers.

Thank you both for the responses.

I used to have a wireless card, wich i just remove from my pc, a linksys with ralintech chipset, i recommend you to use ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper let you use your .inf driver for windows.

google ndiswreapper for more info and to install it just use

Code:
aptitude install ndiswrapper
or
apt-get install ndiswrapper
depend wich you used before, if you started using apt-get stick to it, same for aptitude
