Large Font in X/ Change default X font

Hi everyone,

When I'm using X, the fonts are very large, for example, in the menu bar of Firefox, or any other program I open. Is there a way to make this smaller? It's not the title bar of the programs, that font is small enough, but the menus inside the programs are very large.

Thank You,
MArales

If you are using the Gnome desktop environment/window manager then run the gnome-control-center program. It has an applet for setting the font size and style.
Code:

gnome-control-center
If you are using KDE then run the kcontrol program. It has an applet for setting the font style and size.
Code:

kcontrol
Other window managers have either got an applet or you will have to edit the window manager configuration files.

Thanks!

Thank you. I'm using fluxbox at the moment, so I'll look in the config files.

Actually, that isn't what I'm looking for. I'd like to change the fonts used in the toolbars of firefox and other programs that I open. They all use the same font. Is that the default X font? If it is, how do I change that?

In desktops, titles have specific fonts, default in X

In both KDE and GNOME, you can specify specific fonts, colors, and other attributes in the control center that manages the desktop. The kcontrol program does this for KDE and the gnome-control-center does this for GNOME, as mentioned earlier.

For Fluxbox, I am not certain exactly which resource modifies the titlebar. My suggestion is to hunt for a system wide resource file for Fluxbox. That would be the place to start. Try copying that file - might be something like fluxbox.rc or .fluxboxrc, given common resource file conventions. Put the system file into your home directory and experiment with it and see if that gets you the answer. You can also explicitly specify resources in either .Xdefaults or .xresources, depending on what you use to customize your X resource defaults.

I have the same problem. Did you fixed it?

Haven't gotten it yet...

I found the xdefaults file, but it was .xresources. However, I'm not sure how to change the font.

First, there are several font settings, like blind*font, remote*font, local*font, light*font, etc. I could find which one worked through trial and error, but it would be easier if someone told me.

Also, when I use xfontsel to try to figure out the fonts, the settings in .xresources aren't available in xfontsel. I cannot duplicate the font selected. Does this mean my xresources file is screwed up? or is my xfontsel out of date?
