Knoppix kernel upgrade

Hi All,

Installed Debian via Knoppix 3.3. I heard there were some problems running the newer Nvidia drivers so I installed 4496. It runs rock solid -- very smooth.

Been thinking about upgrading the kernel to 2.6. Anybody done this after a knoppix 3.3 install? What was your experience? Any gotchas to watch for? Any thoughts really appreciated.....

Not really. Once you use apt (BTW, this is an HD Install... right?) to upgrade anything, its no longer really knoppix. Its Debian unstable.
As for 2.6.5, just ensure that you have module-init-tools installed.

Heres the deal maybe

Not that simple, those nvidia drivers will need to be the 53.XX brand.
Number two in addition to the module-init-tools is the problems probably encountered with the gcc
make sure to upgrade to SID/SARGE, unstable/testing by editing /etc/apt/sources.list.

The gcc would always something to the effect of having an incorrect path. Most folk use some command and arguments to defeat that PATH problem. I have forgotten it, never used it; for i consider myself to be as tidy as my knowledge will allow. At that point I tried 3.4 with 2.6.X but to no avail with kernel panics in linux and linuxold. I could then never get linux configured correctly without use of 2.4.2X.

Eventually started with 2.4.18 and exited before tasksel, edited sources list, upgraded distribution, added kernel-source-2.6.X and boom bam bing.

After all that apt-get install XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX
to death.
