Unhappy Knoppix boot failure

I recently attempted to boot from a Knoppix CD, but got no response whatsoever. The pc looked on the CD drive at boot time (at least I believe so because of the black screen and time it took) but did not boot into Knoppix, just went straight into windows. Any ideas about how to boot with Knoppix?

Thanks for your help.

this looks more like a bios boot option problem

go into the bios and set the cdrom as the first device or at least before the hdd

This should solve your problem

Thanks for that, but I believe I wasn't clear in my first post.

I have reset the bios to boot from the CD, but it failed to boot. Is this proof that the CD is bad or is there some correctable reason?

Thanks for your help.

Question

Do you have another bootable CD, just to check that the machine boots from cd?

I have a similiar problem. Mine sometimes halts with 'syslinux debian 2.04 etc. followed by a bunch of garbage symbols.

I have changed enough junk in the bios till I forgot where normal was!!! So, did a 'load best' to reset. Hehehe.

Could it be a video card conflict, or is it not seeing the keyboard since it is a german boot disk?? No broadband here,so d/ling from sites is out.

I have a 32 mb geforce gateway installed, could try the old ati 8mb agp if anyone thinks that may be the problem.

It turns out it was just a badly burned CD. I bought a Knoppix CD from Linux Emporium that booted fine. Thanks to all for your suggestions.

Knoppix does not have such a problem like key conf (I think it doesn't since it detects and confs it later) but the video might be the problem...

go to knoppix forum for more answers. They just know more
