kfloppy question

Will Kfloppy work outside of the KDE environment?
I installed Kfloppy, but when I use the program, the drive is activated and it sounds like it is working. The progress bar never activates and the floppy is in an unusable state.

I Installed sarge with the Debian-Installer,
I am using icewm as my manager.

If Kfloppy will not work is there a graphical program for formatting floppies?

There's a Gnome program just like KFloppy...can't bring myself to remember the name right now though.
