keyboard problem with laptop

Hi,

This is a really newbie question, sorry if it's very stupid))))

i just installed Debian (1CD), it booted fine, then it started a program, which said it will guide me through the rest of the install process (or rather configuration).

This is the problem. When i hit 'Enter' for OK it didn't react. My guess is that it sort of “forgot” about my keyboard, for none of the keys worked. It's strange, because during Install everything worked fine.

thanks

Hi and welcome to LQ

First: You question is in no way stupid!

What type of laptop is it?

You can check out this url to see if your laptop is there:
http://www.linux-laptop.net/

Maybe it is, so scroll through it to check out if there are any solutions.

And offcourse: Post back if you don't know 'howto' make it happen

Do a reinstall using this bootparameter at boot:
Code:
linux26
This will run the installation using the 2.6.x.x kernel, it supports alot more hardware than the 2.4.x.x kernel that is used by default.

If asked you can select your keyboardmodel:
National PC87570 (with 4 user-programmable One-Touch

Actually I think it just detechts it, and thats it.

How did you boot your first installation, did you just hit <enter>?

Try it and let's hear what happens?

Hi antiloaded and jumedea. That www.linux-on-laptops.com/hp.html HP Omnibook XT6200 Debian article gives excellent info on that lappy, including keyboard, video card, sound card, etc with guides for how to configure video, apm, sound, pcmcia, sound, ethernet, modem, ports and even includes /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 with keyboard section too. It should prove very handy for this planned install. Good luck.
