keyboard keymap is messed up. the down button brings up a window pointing to my home

I have a Dell Latitude C600 and whenever I hit the down button on my keyboard rather than scrolling down a web page or a document a window comes up showing my home folder. When I log in as root the down buttom it works just fine. How can i fix it so that the down button does what it is suppose to?
