Kernel panics when trying to transfer large amounts of data from or to my hardrive

Hi,
When i try to transfer large files to my harddrive from flash drive or try to burn a dvd or cd I get a kernel panic after a while. I'm really perplexed by this. Can anyone help?

Well, first things first.

How much Ram and Swap do you have? you need enough swap to transfer large amount of data.

Also, what file system are you using?

CuriouserAndCur 01-10-2007 11:50 AM

Thanks for the reply.

Ram/swap shouldn't be a problem: 1G/2G respectively

I have been able to burn if use a 2.4 kernel, but if I use this kernel then I have problems with usb and ethernet card.

Any other ideas of what I should look at?

CuriouserAndCur 01-10-2007 11:53 AM

Oops I forgot filesystem ext3.
