Question Kernel gone kaput ??

Hi guys,

I had a sarge 2.6.8-2-386 kernel thats comes default with 3.1r2 so i downloaded the linux-kernel-2.6.16-11-686-smp(filename mayb different but version same) using synaptic. But it didn't install giving error as follows
http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/3...rrordeb4in.jpg
I did a reboot and the system goes to the login prompt and gives a failed X msg and hangs. I cant select '<yes>' or '<no>' option only requiring a cold reboot.

What should i do??

This is my sources.list
