Kernel cannot see complete ram

I just installed Debian and I noticed that it is not seeing the complete RAM. I have 4G of ram but when I do cat /proc/memeinfo I get Memetotal 917124112KB that means its only seeing about 1G. Are there any options I should give when installing it. I'm running debian etch. Upgrading the kernel image did not help.

Please advice

Mike

Did you have correct kernel option? (CONFIG_HIGHMEM)

You can find a pre-configured kernel here: http://packages.debian.org/testing/a...2.6-686-bigmem Keep in mind that this is for Pentium-like proc's on Debian Etch. If you run Stable, your options are very limited:
a) upgrade to Etch
b) configure and build your own kernel
The Etch installer automagicaly select the highmem kernel if it finds more then 1 GB of RAM. Making your own kernel has the benefit of being able to tweak it to precisely your hardware requirements.

This is Linux, the choice is yours!
