kernel 2.4.24 crash after 5-10 days running 1 java prog in JRE1.5.0_04

I recently upgraded some small boxes with a fresh debian 2.4.24 kernel. It only runs a small java program. On the same occasion I upgraded the java JRE to 1.5.0_04. And now I noticed the box crashing after 5 to 10 days. Totally locking up, no response from the keyboard or the console (I'm not running X), not even a response from a ping. No entries in a syslog.

After a power cycle (manually) the box happily reboots and runs again 5-10 days without a hitch.

Each box is a PII , 128 MB ram, 1GH HD. No swap, root is read-only, only local logging is rw. A copy of the syslog is sent to a remote server, also here no problems are detected.

Anybody an idea what could be causing this?
