KANOTIX , walkthough for installing gentoo portage & emerge on debian pure sid

Installing Required Packages

apt-get install build-essential
apt-get install python2.3 python2.3-dev
apt-get install wget rsync bzip2

Getting and Installing Portage

cd /
wget ftp://hurd.rustedhalo.net/pub/gentoo...2.0.50-r1.tbz2 -O /portage-2.0.50-r1.tbz2
tar xjvf portage-2.0.50-r1.tbz2
wget ftp://hurd.rustedhalo.net/pub/gentoo-hurd/functions.sh -O /sbin/functions.sh
ln -s /sbin/functions.sh /etc/init.d/
cp /etc/make.conf.example /etc/make.conf

Adding Users and Groups

groupadd wheel
groupadd -g 250 portage
mkdir -p /var/tmp/portage/
useradd -g 250 -u 250 -d /var/tmp/portage/ -s /bin/false portage

Syncing the Portage Tree

wget ftp://hurd.rustedhalo.net/pub/gentoo...040616.tar.bz2
tar xjvf portage-20040616.tar.bz2
ln -s /usr/portage/profiles/default-x86hurd-1.4/ /etc/make.profile

Installing Required Packages

apt-get install python2.2 python2.2-dev
apt-get install wget rsync

Getting the Portage Tree

cd /
wget ftp://hurd.rustedhalo.net/pub/gentoo...040427.tar.bz2
tar xjvf portage-20040616.tar.bz2
ln -s /portage/profiles/default-x86hurd-1.4 /etc/mak
e.profile

emerge-webrsync -- note this seems slow

the emerge rsync seems just fine it seems to work

I think thats all the commands that were required for getting emerge for debian KANTOX version

web link from debian hurd version but its outdated and some commands from hurd not needed

Since we now have an active Tutorial section, writing How Tos in the live forums is discouraged. I'd suggest rewriting it and posting it there.
