What do you mean with the word "downgraded" ?
The 2.6.x series is supposed to have better hardware support (supports more and newer hardware), maybe that's the reason your burner works better with 2.6.x

It's strange for Debian. Probably, It's problem with this snapshot. I'm not sure. But it's not usual for debian this strange behavor.
I hope the new version will be stable as woody.

Why don't you just use kernel like 2.6.11.7 if its faster than oldie 2.4.x one
1. kernel 2.4x : K3b seems to recognize everithing and it's ready to work. But the writer is not recognized as a scsi
device but as atapi. So, you have to put "hdd=ide-scsi" in boot loader ( grub or lilo) and to check
with the tool "modconf" the scsi drivers ( You need ide-scsi and probably sg ). Then you have to
delete the device /dev/hdd and then to make a symlink of hdd to scd0 ( ln -s /dev/scd0 /dev/hdd ).
Reboot and everithing is ok.

2. kernel 2.6x : There is no problem.
Thanks the community.
That's interesting and thanks for telling us all what fixed it.
I was having a problem kinda like this one, but in Helix 1.5 (which is Debian 3.1), where k3b wouldn't see a disk even though one was in there. I used the Force button and set the write speed from Auto to 12x and it worked everytime.
