Java applets not working in iceweasel

I have a curious issue with java applets in iceweasel, namely they don't work for one user but they do for all other users. However, this one user finds the java applets work for him in iceape on the same system.
I can only think that there is some problem with the iceweasel configuration files but I don't know where to look. Any help would be appreciated.

First look to see that IW is using the Java plugin, type aboutlugins in the URL bar.

Something like:
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0-b105

File name: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0
Should be there, if not its not installed correctly, just do a apt-get packagename -reinstall. Or try to use dpkg to reconfigure java.
