Heh, all strapped in to await the rollercoaster.

My testing is now stable, then will be incredibly unstable, then will be testing once more.
And then a long way down the track... stable again :P

Oh what fun

Stella106,

Perhaps it's because you have your sources set to testing. Sarge just went stable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think etch has security updates

There is a special "Debian testing security team" that has been active since January 2004 but they haven't so far explained in detail how providing security updates for testing is supposed to work in practice. I expect they'll make some kind of announcement sooner or later now that Sarge has been released. Apparently they've helped in solving Sarge's security problems to make the release process smoother and they plan to continue working on Etch in the future.

http://secure-testing.alioth.debian.org/

The leder of the testing security team is Joey Hess from SkoleLinux, the same guy who's been essential in developing the new Debian-Installer. I have no idea how the security updates for Etch will work in practice but at least currently there doesn't seem to exist any package pool dedicated to Etch or testing at security.debian.org:

http://security.debian.org/dists/

Joey Hess keeps a weblog that might from time to time have some unofficial information about the progress of the testing security team, and all the official announcements should be linked to the project's home page at alioth.debian.org:
