Is there a debian specific kernal compiling guide?

Hey I am trying to get debian 3.0 working on my computer. I have installed the 2.6.3 kernal source but had problems running make menu config to setup the kernal it didnīt work! I can supply the exact error later if needed but am currently at work

As I am only used to using make menu config. I ended up copying my .config file from my slack install.

I am wondering if there is a Debian specific kernal compiling guide? I guess there is somthing I need to install/upgrade before I can use the make menuconfig command.

If its a new install you don't have the compiler yet. Just apt-get what you need when trying to make menuconfig (you'll need libcurses5-dev too)

This should cover it:

Code:
[ken:ken](02:11pm)$ apt-cache show kernel-package
Package: kernel-package
Priority: optional
Section: misc
Installed-Size: 852
Maintainer: Manoj Srivastava <srivasta@debian.org>
Architecture: all
Version: 7.107
Depends: perl5, dpkg (>= 1.4), dpkg-dev (>= 1.4.0.9), fileutils (>= 4.0)
Recommends: libc-dev, gcc, debianutils, make
Suggests: kernel-source, libdb3-dev, libncurses-dev
Filename: pool/main/k/kernel-package/kernel-package_7.107_all.deb
Size: 205420
MD5sum: 005ddde01f9be9220cf443a47bc4770a
Description: Debian Linux kernel package build scripts.
...
So the depends line should cover it.

You may be missing the ncurses library as well.

apt-get install libncurses5-dev

It is required if you are trying to do "make menuconfig".
