is it possible to install debian on a sunfire v480R?

We were given an old sunfire v480R for a project lab at school, I would prefer to be running debian but I can get the installer working.

I have tried the lenny install CD but it locked up with an RTC issue, I tried netbooting and it locked up as well.

Is there any way to install to this machine.

Searching around I found this http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495216 which seems to be the same issue. I'm just not sure how to actually fix it.

This message indicates FreeBSD can be installed, so Linux shouldn't be an issue either, wouldn't it? Alas, I've seen several failures noted on the web... But have a look around here: http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/SPARC-HOWTO-12.html And I suppose you've found http://www.debian.org/ports/sparc/ already?
