Installing mono-project on debian

After I installed, using the mono-1.1.6-installer.bin from mono-project, none of the mono-executables will run. They seem to be starting, but then they just exits without doing anything.

From the mono-project page

The Mono version included with the installer may not work in Debian and Suse8 due to GLIBC dependencies.
Does this have something to do with it?

I am curious as to why you didn't try installing mono from the Debian repositories? It's in there. Just apt-get install mono.

Guess I'm getting too comfortable with aptitude :S
Thought the packagelist in aptitude was the same as in apt-get... Didn't find mono in aptitude.

Well... uninstalled the mono-1.1.6 package and installed mono 1.0.5 with apt-get...
Still... there is nothing happening... there were no additions to the menu. - There were just some binaries installed in /usr/bin

Though, at least it seems like the console command mono is putting out some text for a change... but I want monodevelop which appearantly was not included in the repository 1.0.5 version :(

Back to square :S

Anyone who knows how to install mono-1.1.6 and monodevelop on Debian Sarge with a 2.6.8-2-686-smp kernel?

Woups... sorry... I'll try harder before I post next time... got monodevelop too with apt-get (it is an old version though)

sudo aptitude install mono-common [/B]
The version on the repositories is old and I thought it would be best to install the newest version right away.

Btw: sudo aptitude install mono-common
would do the same as:
su
password:
aptitude install mono-common

right?
