installing debian from knoppix and RAID1

Hello,

I am trying to install Debian Sarge from debootstrap with Knoppix. I have 2 disks that I want to make software RAID1 and for that I'm using mdadm. I follow some tutorials that explained how to create the arrays and etc but I have a problem in the /dev/md* devices. First, I don't have those devices, so I use mknod to create them. Then when I use the mdadm --create to build the arrays of RAID1 the system says that, for example, /dev/md1, the device that I create with mknod, does'nt have a BIOS address. The /dev/md* devices only work when I do dpkg-reconfigure mdadm and activate all the arrays. I'm a little confused about this process of creating the initial RAID arrays with mdadm, anyone can give me some guidelines or procedures of configuring this right?

Thanks.
