install grub to a root partition instead of MBR using Live-CD

Hi

Howto install grub to a root partition instead of MBR using Live-CD?

First you need to chroot your linux install from the live-cd. Then simply execute grub-install from the chroot environment specifying the partition in which you want to install it to.

Hope this helps.

On the Ubuntu site below, half-way down the page under 'via chroot':

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Gr...iveCD_terminal

I don't use Debian so am not sure if it has sudo enabled so you may need to revise the commands just logged in as root user. The general process should be the same.

using Live CD:
Code:

# mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
# grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda2 --force

solved this problem!
