Install - Detect and Mount CD-ROM
 

trying to install
debian-6.0.6-i386-DVD-1.iso.torrent
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.6/i386/bt-dvd/

booted from cd rom chose install
got to this step:
unable to detect and mount CD-ROM

said no common CD-Rom drive detected.
tried option to manually select CD-ROM
moduale and device dev/cdrom no luck.

tried 3 cd rom drives the last was a
LG GH22NSJO other was a new modern samsung.

option was there to load drivers from a removable media
but no linux drivers on the LG website on windows .

Any help appriciated.

I doubt that this is a problem with the CD drive, it looks more like a missing driver for the storage controller. Please post the specs of that machine and check if AHCI or a RAID mode are enabled in the BIOS.

Does the install give you the option of manually selecting the CD? Also, try testing the CD in another computer or a VM if you have one available.

I hate to be a stormy petrel, but I had something similar happen once with a Slackware install. The system found CD 1, but could not find CD 2 to continue the install.

I never was able to figure it out, so I finally ran a Debian netinstall, which required only one CD (my first foray into Debian).

Turned out this was a symptom of a much larger problem. The monitor went a month later (I hooked up an external), then the laptop died most emphatically and completely six months later.

thankx changed sata mode selection from IDE to AHCI in BIOS.
and worked.

now asking for driver needed for Ethernet card gives me a list to choose from.
will look at bios setting for this also.

I have a Gigabyte H77M-D3H motherboard
Bios Date 5/11/2012

Intel i3 32 bit processor
4 GIG RAM

It may be possible that the network adapter on that mainboard is not supported by the older Debian 6, so that you have to install one manually.

Would like to ask a question:
Now sais No Ethrenet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed
bu your Ethernet card select from list.

It states:
Due to different Linux support condition provided by chipset vendors,
please download Linux driver from chipset vendors' website or 3rd party website.

I presume this is my ethernet chipset i have no Ethernet Card the Ethernet cable
is plugged into the Motherboard Ethernet Socket.

LAN - Atheros 8161 GbE LAN chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

Looking on google it appears Atheros AR8161 Ethernet controller
is very new and may not be on the debian kernel yet.

Question how would i go about finding this for Debian
the i presume i would put it on a USB stick while installing Debian.

If Debian 7 fits your use, you can get it [1] and test it as it uses a newer kernel (3.2.32).

just wanted to know how to install debian-6.0.6-i386-DVD
with my mother board which is not that new.
just need to know what i have to do to get it to find
the drivers for my Ethernet.

The first thing would be to find out which network chip is used, the Gigabyte site only states that is is one from Atheros. So after you have installed Debian you should post the output of here.
Keep in mind that installing that driver will not be a trivial task and it may be easier to install a more recent distribution that already comes with that driver, either Debian Testing or a different distribution.

used manaul partitioning as well.

Hi, this issue also came up when trying to install Crunchbang from USB.

This is on an ASUS, Intel Core i5 with the new UEFI and "Secure Boot" disabled.

I am unable to get past this point with installer complaining:

"No common CD-ROM drive was detected".

Crunchbang 10 "Stattler" is based on Debian Stable, so it might be the same issue for you. Try it with Crunchbang 11 "Waldorf", it is based on Debian Testing.

Wheezy is fairly close to being released as the new stable. If you want to stay with stable make sure that your sources.list points to Wheezy so that you will stay with it. Otherwise if it is pointing to testing you might get a surprise after release.
