IDE - SCSI emulation with 2.4.27 kernel

just did a fresh install of debian sarge & found that there was no IDE-SCSI emulation for the CDRom & CD burner.
in the past, all i had to do to enable the scsi emulation was to edit the /boot/grub/menu.1st file & append "hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" to the "kernel" line.
however, it did not work for me in this particular distribution. was there anything i left out? what do i need to do to enable scsi emulation?
tia

hello there. i guess you simply need to configure and recompile your kernel to be able to support ide-scsi. i guess the option's in the scsi section, support for ide.

you might as well try the 2.6 kernels. ide's there are no longer dependent of the scsi. i'm not sure though. at least to the cdwriters.
