Have you also newly installed Debian etch to find out that it's nothing but a bundle of problems bordening on the catastrophic status of windoze 98 ??
anyways , I've encountered the following BUG:
the best way to see it yourself is to Try playing an mp3 , mpg or whatever using the default player Totem and while it's playing go to the date & time panel , change the time an hour forth
or back then press "OK" ....
what gonna happen next is that the totem player will crash , freeze , or at least stop playing while the point meter which indicated the current position in the song will run forward as if you're dragging it with your mouse.
Now after you see the bug , Can anybody be so kind and tell those "Losers" from GNU that their 21 month period
of testing was not able to discover such an obvious bug , noting that i found it after less than 2 days of installing it??
Good Job , GNU ! you've been an awesome developer.......NOT!
Aren't you the same person who can't make his wireless card (with built-in kernel support) work? I hardly think I'd depend on your analysis of what constitutes a bug.

No problems here....with Etch in general.
Your bug is,well, your bug,it didn't do it here.
Oh well,I tried.
Maybe reinstall properly and setup properly?
A small tip. Flaming an OS is not the way to get help or a sympathetic response. Debian is a powerful, stable OS and it is one of my favourites.
Comparing Debian to Win98 is laughable at best. You are behaving in a troll-like fashion.
@rickh: Yes , I'm the user who is having troubles with debian and wireless ethernet , but remember something it's not me who can't make his card work , IT's debian who can't configure the wireless lan , get that right!
@ Hitest: first of all what is the definition of flaming?
second thing: I Don't need a sympathitic respone , you probably don't know me if enough to know that my blood is cold and that my nerves are made of steel so the conclusion is that .
Your sympathy is the last thing I'd need. *sigh*
but ignoring this personel trolling and focusing on the technical business:
MY hardware is mainstream hardware running a mainstream release of Debian Etch (which has been released since april 8th) so when I say that there is a bug the way I described it above then IT MEANS that there is a damn bug happening , DID I express myself clear enough or is there a need for further elaboration?
Another technical note : When I refered to coming up with the time and date panel I was talking about getting it from the taskbar by right clicking on it and then selecting "adjust time and date"
changing the time an hour forth or back while an mp3 or any other media file is running on totem (the default media player) and not on rhythmic jukebox etc...
finally I'd like to add , I HAVE DONE my part !
so if you think I'm here for enteraintment then you're completely wrong , to put the point on the line : I don't give a frig , dude! this Debian is simply not my invention nor am I responsible for it , I've found a bug and that's why I'm writting this.
This ain't my bug that I should take care of after all.
entz: Are you using totem-xine or totem-gstreamer?
thank everything that's holy that I finally got a respectable peer to talk reason with
well let me check ,I'm Suse right now so I've to reboot....gonna edit this post later
wait a minute I've found that changing the time on suse while the real player is playing also produces weird behavior , strange!?
could the bios be the root of the problem? if yes then where is the damn connection between the sound and the clock?
Now after you see the bug , Can anybody be so kind and tell those "Losers" from GNU that their 21 month period
of testing was not able to discover such an obvious bug , noting that i found it after less than 2 days of installing it??
Good Job , GNU ! you've been an awesome developer.......NOT!
a. GNU doesn't develop debian. Debian develops debian.
b. Insulting people isn't a good way to get help.
c. I think I speak for most of the community when I say that based on your actions thus far, I really don't care if your problem gets fixed or if you stick with debian at all. Grow up.
From a technical standpoint, I'd be inclined to think that perhaps the mediaplayer uses the system's internal timer mechanism to set a timed interrupt. This interrupt would then fire off (repeatedly) when you advance the clock. I'm not sure of totem's exact implementation, so it might be hardware dependent.
Second, while it MAY be a bug in Debian etch, it might only be with YOUR hardware. Also, this is not the proper place to file a bug report for Debian. debian.org/Bugs/Reporting is.
Finally, please refrain from the use of inflammatory language. This goes for both the OP and for the others posting in this thread. Nothing productive comes from name calling.

You may want to have a look-see in some logs, maybe start totem from terminal or debug flags to see what it outputs when it happens that you change the clock.
Suse has the same bug?Boy,you must feel stupid after what you wrote about debian.
I highly doubt it is anything in your bios. Its probably just a linux thing not specifically distro related or same software used on both.\
With out logs, bug reports do no good here or at debian bug reports site.
I wish the link to debian bug reports wasnt posted,I'd hate to see aptlistbugs loaded to the gil with your bug reports every dist-upgrade...lol.
Can anybody be so kind and tell those "Losers" from GNU that their 21 month period

A. GNU contributes just as much to Debian as they do to SuSE, Fedora, Mandriva, and others. GNU is separate from Debian. Debian just uses the name "GNU/Linux" because some people think it is more fitting than just "Linux"
B. Don't let RMS hear you say that!
