http auth question


Hello

I have a sysinformation program installed in /home/user/sys. the folder exist and i have the following in my httpd.conf however it wont ask me for a password when i go to http://mydomain/sys, why is this ??
Im running apache2 by the way.

HTTPD.conf
<Directory "/home/user/sys/">
AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/.htpasswd
AuthName "Restricted Area"
AuthType Basic
require valid-user
</Directory>


also, i have a stats program running on my server, you access it trough http://mydomain.comort same thing here, how can i make is so it ask for login and password when going there ? is it the same way as above? just wonderin since this is no folder im accessing.

Hi,

I guess you've restarted apache after adding the code in httpd.conf. You can put the code into a .htaccess file, so there is no need to restart apache.
Also make sure that httpd.conf is included in apache2.conf and not commented out.
Last but not least, is /home/user the DocumentRoot of your apache server, or you have to access it using http://mydomain/~user/sys
