howto detect adaptec scsi card?

hi every body,
I have a scsi card for a cd writer, installed on windows , the properties of it are:
adaptec AHA-150X/1510/152X/AIC-6X60
with I/O 0340-035F
IRQ 09

I installed KNoppix which recognize every thing, ISA sound card , video ....
but not my scsi adaptec.
I tried debian 3.0, (at the installation of the system ) in the scsi module, aha152X is listed , but when I check to install it gives the error
/lib/modules/2.4.18bf24/kernel/drivers/scsi/aha152X.o : no such file,
I didn't understand, If the driver is listed this means it exists ??!!

or maybe my card is not aha52X , there is not possibility to choose more closer divers in the list.
Why windows gives this property ???

any way, Where can I find an appropriate divers, and how to add it as a module (whithout the complete compilation of the kernel),
thank you very much
bela

Check the properties of your scsi card with the "lspci" program. There you should see what card says it is.

There seems to be atleast drivers named aha152x.o, aha1542.o and aha1740.o. You can try to load them directly by invoking "modprobe aha152x" (and the others).

It also looks like you are using a kernel from the boot-floppies (the installation kernel). It might not nesseserily contain all the scsi drivers. If so, then you should install a new kernel.

How? Quick instructions:
  • Make a bootfloppy by running the "mkboot" command. (just in case some/everything goes wrong)
  • Find out your processor architecture (cat /proc/cpuinfo helps)
  • Find the matching debian package (kernel-image-2.4.XX-1-YYYY, where XX is your preferred kernel version, something between 18 and 22, and YYYY is a match to your processor type)
  • Install the package in question (apt-get install kern...).
  • Follow the instructions in screen (espesially acording to the lilo.conf modification)
