I guess most of the Debian users might have run into a situation where they have to install a backport package for their current version of system.
My question is that suppose if I want to backport a certain package from Debian unstable to Debian etch, how can I do that? Does anyone know any resource for that?
Just found these from google, never done it myself...
Thanks for the links. It seems that the tutorials are not very comprehensive and detailed one. I am looking for something which is more explanatory since I have not ventured into this territory before.
Chances are real good that any package in Sid requires a libc6 file greater than the one in Etch. If not, it's quite likely they're available at backports.org
If you consider those packages critical, I'd suggest that you upgrade to Lenny. From there you can generally pull in a Sid package with no problem.

Thanks your comments. Well the problem is that I have to use the debian distribution for a production environment and therefore I cannot simply upgrade to Lenny.....
I don't know about in debian but in ubuntu it was just easier to build the debs from the source package instead of backporting. Backporting usually lead to a zillion dependency errors. I don't know, maybe I was doing something wrong...
