I spent a big chunk of last night reading the original Usenet discussion
and it bothers me quite a bit. I don't think it's wise to jump to conclusions in either direction at this time, but most (if not all) the posters in the thread I linked to are great developers and open source advocates. Teo T'so (who hosted the original Linux distribution site on his workstation for those who don't know him
) raises a point with fonts (virtually *no* fonts can be distributed), and there are a lot of other issues brought to light.
Personally I think they jumped the gun, but time will tell.
