How to force apt-get to get i586 packages instead of i686 ?

I have installed debian 6.0 (i386) on rb110 board with Vortex86XD processor which is i586 arch. It's installed on an 8GB micro SD card. I removed card from board and boot it on my computer (64bit - Core i5). Now when I try to upgrade system, kernel is upgraded to i686-pae.

I'm looking a way to tell apt to download just packages of i586 architecture. (if possible, replace each i386 package installed on system with its i586 version...)

If you don't want that kernel, don't upgrade to it. Instead of using apt or aptitude from command line, use synaptic from GUI and deselect what you don't want upgraded. You have the control, don't let the operating system control you.

And BTW, Debian 6 is stable, which means you probably don't need to apply any updates to begin with. For some reason, people think they will be left behind if they don't have the latest and greatest, if you want the latest and greatest, install Debian testing or go even more bleeding edge with Sid.

Install linux-image-3.1.0-1-486 or whatever version is in backports. PAE wouldn't work on this ancient Thinkpad either.
