To be complete, $ man apt.conf gets us:

Lines starting with // are treated as comments (ignored), as well as all text between /* and */, just like C/C++ comments.

You can look at some of the packages here & see how many items are suggested for different packages.

Hmm, after 9 years we are still suggesting ways to completely bloat an inocent install of Debian.
