If there is no option to compile it into the kernel, there is usually a good reason why it can be compiled only as a module.

Why do you want to compile it in?

i compiled kernel with ipw2100 support can be use with any linux distro, right?

i read the install file from the ipw2100 source folder:

BUILDING IN KERNEL SOURCE TREE
----------- ----- ---- ---- --- -- - -

Building the driver in the kernel tree is not currently supported with
the standalone tarball releases. Please see the project web site at
http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net for information on how to build the
driver within the kernel.

CONFIGURING THE KERNEL
------------ ----- ----- ---- --- -- -

Configure the kernel

% make menuconfig

Enable Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 under:
Device Drivers =>
Networking support Devices =>
Wireless LAN =>
Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 802.11b

NOTE: You must have EXPERIMENTAL turned on to see the Intel PRO/Wireless
option. You can set this in Code Maturity Setting Options.

yet i find nothing on there site........

yea sure... but I guess you are using only one distro no? also, if you use debian as it is written under your name you don't have to do that, just download ipw2200-source, unpack it and do (from /usr/src) modules-assistant a-i ipw2200, then unpack the firmwares in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware (read /usr/share/doc/ipw2200-source/README.Debian) and you are done... but I still don't understand what you don't like about the fact to have a module for that... sorry
Best,
A.

it infact works in Debian...

Why i want to compile it into the kernel? B/C i want to use that kernel on different distro (which i have
unsolvable problems compling the ipw2100 module)

Edit: Can i use the kernel image+module in different distro(s)? if i can, i actually dont need to recomplie ipw2100 support into the kernel.....)
