How do set up Tiscali Broadband in Debian?
I've just started using Debian and I have noticed that there is a driver for my SpeedTouch USB ADSL modem (finally, a distro that it works with!). It has installed correctly, and my modem is detected, but how do I connect to the Internet? In Windows, the setup CD automatically installed everything and placed a dial-up connection that dials '0' and validates my usernams/password, but the CD won't work in Linux (even with WINE)and I don't know how to configure it. Can I just use KPPP to dial '0' and verify my username/password?

adsl connexn
U need to run 'pppoeconf' and follow prompts for username,pw etc. To connect at bootup u need to edit /etc/network/interfaces as follows:
auto ppp0 iface ppp0 inet ppp provider dsl-provider #please do not modify the following line pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf Good luck and have fun with debian. |
Thanks! I've also realised that I need to download the SpeedTouch modem firmware from it's site; the program from speedtouch.sf.org is only a wrapper (<-correct?) so I'm going to do that now. If I connect, I'll post again saying so.
Thanks for your help! :p |
