Hide X
How do i stop X from showing when i boot up? I do not like seeing a black and white background before KDE loads, it can be quite annoying!
I would prefer to see a black screen, or have a custom set background that matches rather than the black and white that always appears before the login screen. |
Errmmm, why do you watch your system booting? Power the machine, do something different (like, get a coffee ;)) and when you're back it's ready to go :)
but it only takes about 30 seconds to boot... :s do you know if there is a way to do it? I dont see it in other Debian based distros like Freespire, Dream Linux etc :(
I suppose one could, by editing a relevant file. Unfortunately I don't know what file to edit. You may want to check the /etc/X11 directory to search for it. Btw, are you sure it's X and not remnants from the swapfile about the screen?
yeah because if i load x without KDE it looks the same as what i am seeing.
The file to edit depends on how you startup X, gdm, kdm, xdm, startx... Or you could try to figure out how the Xsession.d files work, I never managed.
Once you find the file the command to run is xsetroot -solid black. @Dutch Master: not sure how the swapfile could be on the screen?? |
Yes, in the beginning of /etc/X11/Xsession, add the line xsetroot -solid black
@ntubski: at the end of the bootsequence, just before Gnome comes up, I see the remnants of the screen as it was before the last shutdown. It also happens when I reboot after a Live-CD session. That means that it has to come from the swapfile, just before it's flushed (I have my PC on mains 24/7, so volatile memory (aka RAM) is still powered, even when the machine was off for the night) Worth noting: I have 1 GB RAM on a nForce 2 chipset.
