help with hardware RAID

Hey, i've got 3 HD's in my system

a 20 gig installed as master drive (it's dual booting with WinXP but I don't think that should matter)

an 80 gig and a 120 gig connected via a Silicon Image Medley RAID card SiI 0680(http://www.siimage.com/products/medley.asp)

I have NO idea how to get these working in Debian (kernel 2.4.25)

I've read a lot about mdadm and raidtools, but from what I can tell they're for software raid only? Since mine is hardware based I don't need them?

Basically, I just want access to those 2 large HD's in linux... I don't need any of the benefits of Raid, just access

thanks to anyone who can help!

Yes I believe that's correct. mdadm and raidtools is only for software raid.

If you just want to access those 2 hard-drives in linux, just mount them to whatever directory that you give them (the directory has to exist of course) and then you can browse around in the hd's.

thanks for the reply :-)

But how do I do that? I checked most of the /dev/hdx drives and couldn't fine the drives, leaving me to believe maybe Debian doesn't recognize my hardware RAID card or something?

Hmm, it sounds like maybe debian doesn't recognize your hardware raid card. Do a 'lspci -v' and see if your raid card is displayed. If it doesn't, then you need to install the driver for it.

Gentoo and Slack both called my raid drive sda sdb or sdc... Give it a try.
